Story
In Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves fortune hunter Nathan Drake embarks on a journey that will push him to his physical, emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala, more commonly known in the west as Shangri-La.

In 1292 Marco Polo departed the court of Kublai Khan in China with 14 ships filled with over 600 passengers and crew. Eighteen months later only one ship remained and 18 passengers survived. Marco Polo never revealed what happened to these lost ships. Embarking on a quest to find the lost fleet, fortune hunter Nathan Drake soon realizes Marco Polo was hiding a much bigger secret - he had gone on a secret expedition to find the mythical kingdom of Shambhala and to recover the legendary Cintamani Stone, the "Wish-fulfilling jewel" of Buddhist mythology. With this new information Drake settles on a new course, following Marco Polo's trail through a diverse range of exotic environments. This quest also pits him against a new, more formidable adversary - a ruthless, rogue paramilitary leader with a private army and a relentless ambition to recover the stone for himself.

Gameplay
Although gameplay in Among Thieves is similar to that of the previous game, there are several major differences. The most important of these is the addition of several online multiplayer options. Unfortunately, no offline multiplayer could be included in the game due to the impact local split-screening has on the game's graphical quality. Thankfully though, the online modes included cover both co-op and competitive play. See the feature list below for details on these. In addition to play modes players can also expect a wealth of new gameplay features including a new stealth gameplay mechanic and altered climbing mechanic--both of which are extended to the AI of enemies; the ability to create cover by flipping over certain found items; the use of riot shields for defense and offense; and a complete lack of loading screens.

Amazing...

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This game is freakin' amazing! The graphics and animations are beautiful, the story is excellent, and the online game play is fun. I would recommend this game to everyone. If you don't have a PlayStation 3, get one and play this game!

Most impressive game I've ever played

Simply put, the character models, animation, facial expressions, environments, story, and dialogue are far beyond any other game I've played. The game is extremely immersive and dynamic and a joy to play. I'm very impressed and give Naughty Dog a big thumbs up.

Phenomenal campaign mode, best multiplayer IF you like TPS

Enough reviews around here to give details on the game. So I'll just give my general impressions.

PROS:
Campaign-mode/Single player is the most fun I've had in quite awhile with a game. Excellent locales, graphics, action sequences and puzzles. Snarky conversations are a plus that isn't mentioned enough. It was better than Metal Gear Solid 4 -- the previous Sony-touted exclusive for the PS3. MGS4 took itself too seriously at times and tended to be too much like a soap-opera for my tastes (as is the whole MGS series). If you grew up loving the Indiana Jones trilogy, like me, you'll love the campaign.

CONS:
1)THIS IS PERSONAL PREFERENCE...Multiplayer, like the campaign, is a Third Person Shooter. Unfortunately, I like FPS's more. I will say, that it plays better than SOCOM and Rainbow 6:LV multiplayers, for me. Action and movement is faster paced than those other titles. However, as with other TPS, the targeting and camera movement don't catch up with the pace of action. That is, I've been 'fragged' too many times by someone running to my flank 'off camera' because the view didn't shift around fast enough to allow me to see them. The 'auto-targeting' helps offset this but it auto-targets the body and not the head so it takes too many shots to bring them down. You'll usually lose if you get flanked because of this. Having said that, it IS the best TPS-multiplayer I've played so far with tons of unlocks and fast-paced action to keep your heart racing.
2)The campaign IS pretty linear but no more so than Gears of War (I have a 360 too). So, you may try to jump up and climb on some path you thought makes sense to you and the game just won't let you. So you attempt the same action along the same wall until you get a handhold and mutter 'oh, that must be where they want me to go'.

Don't believe the hype

Uncharted 2 has been nominated for game of the year and received massive critical acclaim. As a gamer who has always taken form over substance, I'm here to tell you, don't believe the hype.

The first problem with Uncharted 2 is that the control scheme is a flawed mess. Just like a popular survival horror game starring zombies, Uncharted 2 has an aim button, with shooting on R1. Enemies have no problem hitting the player with pinpoint accuracy, whereas the players shots hit based on random chance more than accuracy and skill.

The second problem is that the game is full of jump sequences, which involve randomly hitting the jump, drop, and direction buttons. Thus, progress in the game is often arbitrary, with wrong moves leading even to death. In a train sequence, the player must arbitarily jump to a higher ledge before traversing.

The third problem is that the designers built in puzzle sequnces. However, most of these end up either being solved by in game help, searching of FAQ sites, or random luck. In some puzzles, propane tanks are explosive. In others, tanks are not explosive, but a player must back up a cart. The environment is filled with aribtrarily interactive objects, meaning most puzzles are solved by guessing and checking.

While others have praised Uncharted 2 endlessly, it is still a deeply flawed game. In the end, the frustration overcame the fun, and I did not finish Uncharted 2.

A lot of fun, excellent graphics and more....

This is an excellent game, with great graphics and very good story. Definitively, the game of the year 2009.
