Description

Suffering from road rage? Prefer offensive driving? Check out Twisted Metal 4, the latest edition in PlayStation's bestselling demolition derby franchise. The game opens with news of the return of Sweet Tooth, this title's maniacal clown who is up to his not-so-funny antics again. Along with a horde of mini-sized clowns, he presents eight interactive battlegrounds on which to do combat, including his bedroom, the carnival, and eight hidden levels.

These new environments have more traps and gizmos than previous Twisted Metal games, including randomly deposited gas barrels, secret areas, and new weapons in larger quantities. The game also introduces the ability to drive on walls and make giant leaps from building to building. Players can choose from 20 new characters and deathmobiles, including a demented family with a fierce station wagon or rock star Rob Zombie's Dragula mobile. Also new to this edition of the car-combat freak show is the "create a car" option, which allows you to customize a car's size, color, model, and special weapon. The rock and rap soundtrack for this combat chaos is provided by Rob Zombie, Cypress Hill, Cirrus, Ghoulspoon, One Minute Silence, and Skold. A multi-tap (sold separately) allows up to four people to play at once. --Carrie Bell

Pros:

  • The next installment in an already successful franchise
  • New cars, new characters, and a new plot
  • Up to 4 players can hit the road with a multi-tap (sold separately)
Cons:
  • Camera angle problems can cause poor visibility during combat
  • Almost as many moves and button configurations to memorize as in a fighting game

Truly a Legend among games

This by far is the best twisted metal. blowing all the ones before it out of the water. featuring not only realistic cars, but, some non realistic cars it thrashes the competition. this is the best twisted metal. TM 3 is the second best.

does the job...

Good game, but not the best the series has to offer...

Solid...

Great game.

This is the newest one for the ps1 and i like it the best. It has many new cars, tracks, items, and things to do. This game is easier than most of the others but it still does get challenging as u get further into the game. The controls r eaiser to get the hang of so u can get better faster. After u beat the game it is fun to do the quick battle on single or multiplayer. U can create ur own type of car with its own saying like after u hit someone with ur special it will say something taunting. U can also choose paint its special and many other things that u can think of. The tracks r much more layed out and much bigger than the others. This one track has a thing that u can pick other people up with and try to destroy them. And each track has things enteresting like that, hidden tunnels in a city, hide outs in a kids bedroom, and many many more. This is one of my favorite games on multiplayer, u can either be on the same team or against each other. This is a great game.

FREAKIN AWESOME!!

The game is one of the funnest games for the PS. Its not expensive and totally worth buying. The controls are easy to understand and this game can become addicting.

a RIP-OFF, but still worth a few dollars

I am a DIE-HARD fan of 2 and also liked 1. When 3 came out I was with alot of fans in saying WTF is THIS!? It was weird jerky, shaky controls, horrible, and obviously rushed graphics, and they messed up all the stories. I feel so bad for Dave Jaffe to have to see his creation ground up, cheeze added and packaged with a brand name and sweettooth's face. 4 doesn't do much better, and yet has a few neat ideas added that make it not as awful and actually worth a bargain bin price.
The story is not one of those ideas, although sweettooth in charge was a nice idea, his being a circus mastermind with evil clown minions was retarded and Totally throws him in a different direction then he was meant to be.
The "Create-a-Car" was a single step in the right direction, although far too shallow, and MAKING you choose one of a handful of STUPID voices [warcries] to hear EVERY TIME you shoot your special will "MAKE YOU SHIVER WHEN I DELIVER" <
Bringing back older characters as bosses [and later playable] was nice. SUPER Axel, Super Thumper, Super Slamm, and Super Auger[from TM3]. Axel was the most fun of the super characters for me.
Another bad idea here, Captain Grimm? why is the grim reaper of motorcycles a pirate now? and not even a cool pirate, a cheezy amusement park pirate. well he wasn't MY favorite anyhow but I'm certain that was a deal breaker for all Mr.Grimm fans. Any fans of Rob Zombie would appreciate that he's brought his Dragula along and is actually a pretty good character.
Another interesting twist is that With Sweettooth in charge, Calypso's pretty pissed, and therefore competing, in a Scud missile truck. his special is to fire a scud into the air and then you bring it back down in a reticle, and it looks a LOT more powerful then it is.
I also want to mention the levels here in this one were better then 3. Of course nothing IN this game was better then the first 2, but in all Twisted Metal 4 proves to be a worthwhile car combat bargain bin game, but NOT a true Twisted metal Sequel. I gave it 4 fun stars becuase I was amazed how much I actually played it, it does have replay value to it, though $20 is still far too much for this.
