Good graphics, but too long

I terms of gameplay, graphics, originality, etc, this beats out any of the past Mario games. The graphics blew me away. It really looks like a high-quality cartoon rather than a game. The movement with the Wii remote and nunchuk feels oddly natural even after decades of playing Mario games with the classic video game controller. I also think it's pretty cool how Mario can literally run around small planets in true 3-D mode. I haven't seen another game quite like it.

Unfortunately, the game is simply too long to really rank as fun. The game designers seem to have fallen into the classic trap of believing that gamers actually care about the story. We don't. We want action and to kill bad guys. However, in Mario Galaxy, it is impossible to skip the cutscenes (which are long and many). In terms of the dialogue and cutscenes, this almost feels like a Zelda-style RPG rather than a Mario game. I played for over an hour and only saw a few Goombas and one boss (a giant piranha plant). The game gets better as you go on, but still there's far too much jumping and wandering through levels, not enough action. If I could at least have avoided the cutscenes, I probably could have gotten much further. I'm just too busy right now to beat a game that will probably take days, if not weeks, to beat. That's too bad, because Mario Galaxy had the potential to be the best mario game since Mario 64.

Fun but a bit too long and repetitive

Most Fun I've ever had Video Gaming

Super Mario Galaxy is hands down my favorite video game. But before you even read this review you have to know that I'm not a serious gamer. This is really the only game that glues me to the screen. Yes, it's that good! I have it for wii, and I'm completley addicted! My sister and I play this game for hours on end.
The point of the game is to rescue Princess Peach from the evil Bowser, who has captured her in a time that had been peaceful. Soon you meet Rosalind, a sort of star Goddess, who tells you she will help you find Peach if you search the galaxy for the stolen Power Stars, which have been taken from her and used to power many villian's ships and evil contraptions, and need to be rescued befor all their power is drained. Once you gather all the power stars, says Rosalind, she will help you find and rescue poor Peach.
My only problem with this game is that there really is no two player mode. Player two has a small cursor and can colect star bits, shoot them to stun enemies, hold enemies, and make you jump higher, but that's about all. This works out well for my sister and I, because i like to be part of the action, and she is content with mostly observing.
This game is challenging, at least for me, and if you have no gaming experience whatsoever this might be a difficult game for you. But all in all this game is well worth your money.
