Soooo Fun!

well there are a few things missing... the most irritating being the lack of a full map view while driving in the world. but non the less this game is CRAY FUN :) and for $20-30 now its a no brainer purchase. i bought it when it came out for $60 and i was completely happy with my purchase... just hopped back into it and loving as much as i did day one!

Not like Hot pursuit 2, but still quite fun

1) It is not a simulator. Cars handle like an arcade game. You want to push the gas to the floor, brake as little as possible, drift and nitrous around turns. Very fun if that's what you're into.
2) The handling and driving style is very different from the NFS hot pursuit 2 of previous generation systems. In the previous version, we didn't have nitro and cars didn't drift as hard as they do in this version. In this version, you need to use those driving elements strategically in the race. It took me a little while to get used to the new mechanics and racing strategy, but it is very fun when you get used to this different style of racing. It almost reminds me of mario kart with the battle elements/nitro/and hard drifts, except with much nicer tracks and cars, and VERY FAST races.
3) The game supports custom soundtrack on PS3, and it does it VERY WELL. Just make a playlist from the playstation menu, then when you go into game change the playlist in the options. You can skip tracks as you are racing by pressing L1. Very nice touch.

Overall, 4 starts because manual transmission would be a nice option, the crash scenes delay the game. The game is not exactly what I was expecting, but definitely fun if you are into arcade type racing with the visuals and sounds of a simulator.

NFSHP isn't bad at all!!!

Besides its flaws (like no multiplayer and no quick race or free roam) NFSHP is an awesome game. Phenomenal graphics and great cars make this game a NFS game. Great game great buy and strongly suggested to NFS fans!!!!

Awesome game.

The people who created this game are geniuses! The game is very fun. The only thing that I don't like is that you cant play two players offline.Otherwise, the game is perfect.

Hot Pursuit races are fun, everything else not so much

I bought this over Gran Turismo 5 due to great reviews at gamespot.com. I played GT5 Prologue and NFS Shift recently, so was also interested in getting a game which is more arcade than simulation.

This game is a LOT of fun in the Hot Pursuit races. You can play both the racer, or the cop - and in each mode it is really fun to use the gadgets (spike strips or EMP etc) to run away/catch the racers. There is a huge range of cars available - but their dynamic characteristics are not all that different (though engine noise characteristics are, which is awesome!).

Which brings me to the main problem of the game: it is really bad as a sim game. And you have to spend a lot of time in races which are not Hot Pursuit - like time trials/multiple racers racing to reach the finish line first. The turn/grip is pretty unrealistic, the other racers have some sort of random behaviour (for e.g. a Bugatti Veyron beats you in an awesome corner overtake, but then loses in the straight line!). This is present even in the Hot Pursuit mode - the police Ford GT was regularly able to go some distance ahead of me to put spike strips - and I was in Pagani Zonda Cinque. And even people that you left a long way back are able to catch up no matter how well you drive.

Though I guess this is done to make sure the driver is always involved in some sort of battle. But I would have preferred other ways:
1) In Hot Pursuit - let Police cars come in from different directions, and have more of them present in your path, rather than most cars chasing you.
2) In Proper races - well make it more consistent with a bit more accurate physics.

Of course, most of these issues are not there if you play multiplayer - where it seems much more fair, and fun! I was going to rate it 3 if multiplayer was not so much fun.

Other pros include good graphics, and a variety of views (desert/snow covered mountains, waterfalls, woods etc). There is a nice selection of background soundtracks. Presence of traffic definitely helps increase the fun factor.

If they can increase the realism a bit more, which is not just more accurate physics, but also how other cars behave - this game would be awesome. Hoping to see a better 2nd version.

Love it!!!

I bought this game for my boyfriend for his birthday. and he loves the game. there is alot of choices for cars and the graphics look pretty good. sounds were pretty good, every thing sounds how it would in real life. alot different from Most Wanted...but it looks pretty fun to play. i havent played it yet, but boyfriend did and he loved it. loved all the highway and interstated driving. no towns to drive it, yet anyways.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
-Fun game
-As of 6-5-2011 there is still an online community
-plenty of cars to choose from that all handle a little differently
-crisp graphics (though nothing compared to Gran Turismo 5 or Forza)
-Once drifting is mastered, it is your friend
-Hot Pursuits are fun
-Auto-log system keeps offline play interesting!
-Can be frustrating....VERY frustrating at times.

Cons:
-Long load times (on both PS3 and 360)
-Restarting isn't instant, the game has to re-load the level
-Has that stupid "online-pass" which makes you pay $10 to play online if you bought the game used. If you buy it new, there is no extra fee to play online. Bad for gamefly subscribers
-Getting a gold (Distinction) medal during the Rapid Response levels can become VERY frustrating and demoralizing

If you can find this game for $30 or you have gamefly, buy/rent it. This is definitely a game worth playing. I've personally sunk 50 hours into this game with no regrets, and this is coming from a FPS player!

Do Not Buy This Game

Cars handle very poorly. You will be disappointed. Do not buy this game. The only way to turn a car in this game is through drifting and it does not matter what type of vehicle you are driving. The menu system and music is weak as well. To put this in context I owned the original Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and was a big fan. This game is no comparison to the original in terms of handling. If you are into drifting and unreal handling you will like this game, everyone else save your money and stay clear of this game.

Great game

This game is a blast. The graphics are very good even though it only plays at 720P. The game play is fun but if you play just once online (when the server comes back up) you won't be playing the single player mode anymore. It is a blast to play against people across the world. Load times are a little slow when loading into the match in the online version but this is the only negative to the game. Buy it you won't be disappointed!

Great Game, except local multiplayer

This game is great reminds me of the old PC hot pursuits, the only thing lacking is the local multiplayer. Online is great play with friends or random people, very competitive.
