Description

Mortal Kombat, in all its incarnations, has always been about anticipation and mystery - bringing players back time and time again in search of brutal combat, secret moves, and hidden characters. And now in Mortal Kombat Trilogy the entire Mortal Kombat series (and more) is on one disk. Die-hard fans will lose their heads over all-new moves, finishing techniques, and a new secret character - Chameleon. Players won't find any improvement in terms of control, graphics, or sound from the Playstation edition of MK3, but they will find a heck of a lot more game.

In addition to the plethora of great-looking backgrounds and digitized characters, Mortal Kombat Trilogy ups the ante in terms of options. Players can do more than simply adjust the level of difficulty and turn off the graphic violence mode; now they can select "auto" combos, which make those difficult multi-button attacks much easier to perform. Gone too is the long loading delay from MK3 and UMK3 when Shang Tsung, the morphing character, switches identity. In Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the console loads two additional characters into memory - this means Tsung can now morph without delay. This pre-loading feature gets even faster and deeper when players select characters who are palette swaps. (An example of a palette swap would be the human male ninja character, who takes the form of the blue Sub-Zero, the yellow Scorpion, the green Reptile, and others. In essence this is the same character, but with slightly different attributes.) The new secret character, Chameleon, takes full advantage of palette swapping, and constantly shifts among the human, male ninja character forms. His morphs are ingenious enough, however, that most players will welcome yet another ninja into the fold.

While there's little doubt that the Mortal Kombat series is the best 2D fighting-game property ever, there is a bottom line. That is to say, Mortal Kombat Trilogy should be seen as a bonus for loyal fans before Mortal Kombat steps into the 3D arena (in next year's MK4). For these fans, Mortal Kombat Trilogy offers enough added elements to justify purchasing it. However, the Mortal Kombat series does have to move to the next level quickly, or it will become a fatality itself. --Hugh Sterbakov

The Best Version of Mortal Kombat 3!

Mortal Kombat Trilogy is pure fun! It contains all of the characters from MK3 and MK3 Ultimate in addition to new playable characters. Plus, there are great modes such as 2 on 2 kombat, and an 8 person tournament, and I'm sure that it would be a fun and adrenaline-pumping challenge for even the most seasoned MK veteran. Overall, it's a great game with plenty of challenges, great game modes, and a wide selection of characters, 32, to be exact, plus a classic version of Jax, Rayden, Kung Lao, and Kano from the first two games.

Good and bad

This game has it's good points and it's bad points. If you are a die-hard MK fan, chances are that you already own (or have owned) this game. The good points include the wide range of characters. This game has every single MK character to date, including "classic" version of some of the characters. Many of the characters have new ending, and some of them also have new moves. The combo system and MK-style fighting engine are both intact, and you can even play as the bosses, plus there is a secret character (Khameleon) to unlock. There is also the all-new "Brutality" finishes and the "Aggressor" mode. And, of course the unlockable "?" game options.

But there are the bad points, too. First of all, although you can play as the bosses, there is really no reason to do so since none of them have endings. And the gameplay difficult seems to be much too hard even on the easiest level. The game almost seems psychic in countering any move you try. Pure luck and a Gameshark are about the only way you will get through this game. And with the return of one of my favorite fighters, Johnny Cage, comes complete with two moves missing. If you think the good outweighs the bad, then get this game. But if you like MK the old way, which is to say one that actually fights fair, then I do not recommend this one.

oh my god dont get me started on this game

oh my god dont get me started on this game oh how ive played this so i was ten and playing this game some times accidentally doing a fatality or babality oh how i was so anoying i repeated the same move over and over i beat this game in warrior with subzero so sooo somanytimes i hate mk4 for and the armagedon series the combo threads were more complicated i was so tortured by learning how to do the combos and searching for stuff and you could only do 40% combos mk vs dc the combo breakers were the rage bars which are hard to fill they chould of bean seperated or not limitted and with good reason when some characters like flash get started on a combo thread they dont stop then youl be waisting a bar for rage it should be three chances for combo breakers who ever gets rage first weapon impale and rage meter from mk that shows a shadow and cheats to do specials in air bombs bursting every where and scorpions still there doing custum combos for victory and justice for aaaall!

THE GREATEST MORTAL KOMBAT GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whew!!!!!!!!!...After being highly disappointed with the N64 version and playing it on the PSX with my cousin, I think that the PSX version is the BEST MORTAL KOMBAT GAME EVER!!!! I mean, how can you go wrong with picking this excellent title up to build up on your PS1 collection? This has Fatalities, Stage Fatalities, Brutalities, Fatalities and many others. Plus, you can get the classic MK Characters and stages. So, if you do not have this game and have either or all of the three PlayStations that have came out, I highly recommend you to pick this masterpiece up.

Mortal Kombat!!!

Personally I think that this is the last of the good Mortal Kombats, I don't really kare too much for the one's with all the weapons plus the kombos were Killer in this one. I just like some of the kharacters from the new. I'm glad someone still has this game around. I only have too complaints it seems to freeze up after a 2 player game is done, therefore you have to reset it and the whole Shang Tsung loading thing, other than that I enjoy it and it brings back teenage memories.
