Description

Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

Honest Review

I love the game. However, recently people have begun to resort to various forms of cheating (i.e. nuke boosting, glitching, hacking...) which is now becoming increasingly annoying since there are only a few good games that you can expect to come across where people are not cheating. In addition, there has been some issues with the game's servers in recent days where mass number of players are booted from the game or have their connections timed out. Hopefully, this will remain a minor issue and shouldn't be that bothersome in the upcoming weeks/months/years. I really have to give IW props for doing an amazing job with developing the game although they did manage to overlook some key technical issues with the game but have made a tremendous effort in the subsequent months post release to correct those issues to balance the game.

ACTIVISION CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!

My Modern Warfare Game stopped working on my 6 month old Xbox 360 it had an error message that read "Disk Unable To Read" so I called Activision & they told me it was my Xbox 360 that was the problem though the ONLY game that would not work on my Xbox was their game Modern Warfare 2, any how I sent the game back to them, 1 week later I called & they told me the game replacement had been sent out & they would email me the tracking # which they never did & when I called them back they told me they never said that & they don't know why anybody at Activision would have told me that in the mean time I'm getting emails telling me because they have not heard back from me in 96 hours they assume now that the problem has been solved, which is crazy & flat out B.S. NOTHING had been SOLVED!

So some words of the wise ACTIVISIONS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE they lie & give you the run around when you have to deal with them & if your thinking about purchasing Modern Warfare 2 my advise is DON'T BUY IT UNTIL THEY FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS GAME, if you go to Youtube you will find it seems everybody is starting to have the SAME PROBLEM I have had with Modern Warefare 2 which is the " Unable to read disk" error & now their having the SAME PROBLEMS with the HORRIBLE ACTIVISION Customer Support, bottom line is Activision sells you a flawed product gets your money & then they sign off on ever wanting to be their for REAL Customer Service or Support if your game goes down & my game was EVEN WITHIN THIR 3 MONTH WARRANTY, so Activision I will NEVER have to put up with your HORRIBLE Customer Service again because I will NEVER EVER BUY A PRODUCT THAT USES YOU FOR DISTRIBUTION OR CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE YOUR COMPANY'S GARBAGE!

SAME OLD STORY

There is nothing new in this game. If you played any of the Call of Duty games since 2 then you played this one except the graphics are better. If this is your first call of duty experience then you will probably love it. Don't expect too much from the campaign. It's pretty generic. Just point, shoot and run straight because there is nowhere else you can run. Multiplayer is filled with lag and I mean a lot!!! It's kind of like Gears of War where the host has the advantage. Seems like Infinity Ward took the cheap route this time. It feels like they just wanted to cash in on the series. Oh well at least I can trade this in and get some money back. Hope you have a better time with this game then I did.

Great Game But Some Nagging Flaws

To start, I want to say that Modern Warfare 2 is without a doubt one of the best games I have ever played, and want to address a couple of different issues:

CAMPAIGN: I really enjoyed the campaign. It was engaging and the story line was very unique - a bit implausable but interesting nonetheless. My issues are with the realism of the snowmobile (uncanny accuracy and one-handed reloads?) and the fact that the story isn't conclusive and opens it up to a MW3. Not that I'm complaining about the possibility of a third in the series, but I'd like to leave the story with an ending.

MULTIPLAYER: Fantastic set of maps and perks. My issue is with the realism. I know it's a video game, but the perks and weapons make gameplay a bit less fun especially for newer players or those trying new weapons and tactics. The accuracy and stabilty of dual shotguns and firing rocket launchers from enclosed places are the two things I have issue with. About the fourth time I get killed by a guy sprinting with a shotgun in each hand wears on my nerves a bit. For 12-year-olds this probably isn't a big issue but us older gamers look for at least a shred of realism.

MULTIPLAYER SCORING: The scoring system is a bit flawed. In Team Deathmatch (undoubtedly the most popular MP forum) you receive points based on your number of kills. The problem is that there is no balance for deaths. I consistently score high, but my ratio is always respectable (I just finished High Rise with 13 kills and 3 deaths) while the game leader had 21 kills and 26 deaths. I would have appreciated it more if socring was adjusted based on ratio of kills to deaths - you lose points for each death. This would stop the suicidal point-racking of guys who just run and gun and stab.

I know it's a video game but these are the nags I have. It doesn't diminish the playability of fun of the game but keep MW2 from getting 5 stars.

;0)

The first modern warfare will stay number one in my game collection. But 2 is still a good game campaign and online still is fun for me love playing it still very enjoyable
